MMDA after Litter Bugs

Credits to MMDA Website

On its first day, September 16, 2010, of intensified Anti-Littering Campaign the Metro Manila Development Authority apprehended 190 individuals littering around the metro. Most Environmental officers/police stationed themselves at key point areas in the metro, especially on terminals of public railways such as the MRT and LRT stations.

Apprehended individuals reasoned lack of trash bins along the metro.. Trash bins are located everywhere but not in streets, since it will cause obstruction to walkways and sidewalks.. Most apprehended individuals threw cigarette butts, candy wrappers and most disgustingly, others spit on the ground.

Some tried to reasoned out, saying they should be given a warning first, and a piece of candy wrapper and a cigarette butt is not harmful.

Well MR. and MS. who thinks litter is not harmful, try to remember the Typhoon Ondoy which submerged the Metro last year. Is that not harmful enough to you?
Hundred fatalities due to irresponsible throwing of thrash, trash that find themselves clogging the drainage and sewer system.

Tell that to people who got sick of Leptospirosis. Most of them you can find at the cemetery now.
They who suffered having the virus by those Rats that loves your trash so much.

Tell that to the Department of Health. To the people who got infected with dengue, because of your thrash that becomes one of the mosquitoes breeding ground.

Others saying sorry but refuse to accept the EVR or the Environment Violation Receipt. However MMDA and Environmental Police was firm on their stand.. Others who tried to run away from their EVR was informed that they could be carried to police precincts.

I just read a Facebook status earlier this evening, one of my friend is so pissed because SHE was caught throwing her candy wrapper. She was angry that, she felt that she was handled like a criminal by the MMDA and the environmental police..

Frankly, she has no reason to complain. First of all, the Regulation Number 96-009 or the Anti Littering Law is a CRIMINAL Offense under the Philippine Environmental Law. It is a criminal liability. Well, I don't need to tell you why since you already know the consequences of indiscriminate and irresponsible disposal of your waste. Since its a Criminal Offense, Apprehended individuals may face inquest and a court trial under Philippine Environmental Law. IF THEY WILL NEGLECT TO PAY THE FINE OF 500 pesos - 1000 pesos and/or to do 8-16 hours of community service. (payment of fine will be collected at MMDA Office).

Each offenders will be given enough time to settle their fine, or to do their community service. If they failed to do so, they will be summoned in court to face their CRIMINAL LIABILITIES. Also their application for National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance will be on hold.

SO GUYS!!! IGNORANCE OF THE LAW
EXCUSES "NO ONE".
